Understanding your bill FAQs

The following questions are the most commonly asked questions of our Call Centre about what is on your bill, what it means, and where to find it.

For more information, please view our understanding your bill page.

What does the opening balance mean?

The first item listed on your bill is the amount that was due on your previous bill. You will see payment for this in the credit column further down the page.

Where is the next meter reading date? (And how definite is it?)

Your next approximate meter reading date is on the back of the bill, on the right hand side just above the payment slip. Our meter readers will read your meter on this date or one day either side of it.

Where do I see if my discount has been applied?

If you have a pensioner or other discount, you will see this detailed on the top of the back of your bill, along with the total of your charges.

What is the difference between statement date and consumption date?

The statement date refers to the dates around the issue of your statements, not your consumption dates (when your meter was read). The statement date is on the front of the bill above your payment information. The period that your bill applies to (your consumption dates) is on the back of the bill at the top. It also tells you how many days were in that period, as this can change.
