Aurora classifies businesses according to their energy consumption. Where you might otherwise be classed by number of employees, for example, the size of your business is based on the electricity (or gas) you use.
Small business
Small businesses use less than 50MWh of electricity at one site per annum (or spend less than around $10,000 a year on electricity at one site.)
Small business gas consumption is less than 1 terajoule (TJ) per site per annum.
Small businesses are ‘tariff customers’, which means that their electricity and gas use is billed at standard tariff rates.
Medium business
Medium businesses use between 50 MWh and 150 MWh of electricity per annum at one site (with electricity bills between around $10,000 and $30,000 per site per annum).
Businesses that are classified as medium are Standing Offer Contestable Customers (SOCC) and have the choice to be on a contract for the electricity or to remain on a tariff.
Medium business gas consumption is between 1–5 terajoules per site per annum.
Gas consumption at this level requires a contract.
Large business
Large businesses use over 150MWh of electricity per site per annum, with bills approximately over $30,000 per site per annum.
Large businesses that use this amount of electricity require a contract.
Large business gas consumption is over 5 terajoules per site per annum.
Gas consumption at this level requires a contract.
