Large business

Large business Tasmania

Under national competition, different classes or levels of businesses have become ‘contestable’ on an annual basis. This five-year timetable is progressively introducing contestability to customer classes (known as 'tranches'). Customers are classified according to their annual electricity consumption per site in the 12 months prior to the assessment.

There are currently four tranches, and all Tasmanian large businesses will fall in one of these.

Tranche 1–3

Tasmanian businesses that spend in excess of $80,000 per annum at one site are classified as Tranche 1–3 customers.
These businesses include mineral processors and heavy manufacturers, food processing plants, multi-storey office blocks, supermarkets and small commercial and industrial businesses.

Tranche 4

A Tasmanian business that spends approximately between $25,000 and $80,000 at one site is a Tranche 4 customer.
These businesses include restaurants, hotels, offices, schools, farmers and nursing homes.
