Structure of the business

Aurora Energy operates six business divisions:

Strategy and Corporate Affairs leads Aurora’s strategic direction. The division is also responsible for a range of other whole-of-business activities, including public affairs and external relations, sustainability strategy, market monitoring and policy development, major business development and telecommunications.

Commercial Services and the Office of the Chief Financial Officer incorporates a range of Aurora corporate and whole-of-business services including accounting and finance, treasury management, legal services, supply chain services, facilities management, energy risk management and information services management.

Network is responsible for the management, development and operation of the distribution system including poles, lines and substations, asset stewardship and network management.

Network Services helps Network to manage Aurora’s distribution assets. The division oversees the distribution resource and response centres, designing and programming, including arranging contracts and service agreements for carrying out construction, operations and maintenance activities.

Network Services also manages customer connections, meter reading, transmission capabilities, the Bass Strait islands electricity system and the standards compliance group, which includes the electrical inspection team and the Aurora Energy Training Centre. Personnel are also contracted by Transend Networks to maintain its extra-high voltage (EHV) transmission system.

The Energy Business, under the leadership of Chief Operations Officer – Energy, Mike Brewster, was created on 1 July 2009 and comprises three divisions:

  • Generation (AETV Power). The Aurora Energy (Tamar Valley) Power Station supports a more competitive generation market and improves security for Tasmania with its use of gas instead of hydro generation. The Tamar Valley Power Station was completed in September 2009
  • Wholesale (Wholesale Energy Division) was create to manage all energy market risks and returns for business. It buys and sells energy, including physical generation, and trades in energy contracts
  • Retail (Retail Division incorporated into the Energy Business on 1 January 2010) is responsible for customer services including electricity sales to business and residential customers, account and case management, retail alliances, marketing, advertising and promotion, billing and complaints handling, call centre services and business support.

The Energy Business also comprises two supporting groups: Commercial Group and Strategic Development.

People and Culture is responsible for people strategy, culture and change management, safety, health and environment, recruitment, employee relations, remuneration and benefits, and organisational development.

In addition to the divisions, the Office of the CEO provides support to the Chief Executive Officer and Company Secretary, and also incorporates the internal audit and risk management functions.
