About AuroraBoard of directorsAurora Energy is a proprietary limited company with eight directors.The chairman is John Hasker AM. His fellow directors are Caryle Demarte, Dan Norton (deputy chair), Brian Keane, Peter Lowe, Tony Beach, Geoff Willis and Peter Davis (chief executive officer).
John Hasker AM (chairman) was appointed the inaugural chairman of Aurora on 17 June 1998. He also chairs Aurora Energy (Tamar Valley) Pty Ltd and is currently chairman of the peak fishing body Seafood Industry Victoria Inc. A former chairman of the Australian Red Cross Service, he holds a Bachelor of Civil Engineering (Hons), a Diploma in Town and Regional Planning and a Master of Business Administration.
Dan Norton (deputy chair) was appointed a director on 26 November 2009 to fill the vacancy left by Mel Cooper’s retirement. He is a former CEO of both Aurora and Hydro Tasmania, former chairman of the National Electricity Market Management Company, and former Secretary of the Tasmanian Department of Premier and Cabinet. He currently chairs the Tasmanian Ports Corporation, the Menzies Research Institute and Capital P&O Logistics Pty Ltd. He is also a director of Tasmania’s Water and Sewerage Corporations, the Tasmanian NBN Company and two private consulting companies.
Caryle Demarte was appointed a director on 1 April 2006. She has a strong background in the energy sector, and is also currently a director of Yarra Valley Water and Synergy and a member of the Victorian Government’s Earth Resources Development Council. Caryle has a Bachelor of Business and is a fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Tony Beach was appointed a director on 29 November 2007. He is a civil engineer with extensive expertise in asset-intensive industries including electricity, gas, water, rail and ports. He has held senior positions with AGL/Agility Services, Pacific National Limited, Asciano Limited and Jemena Limited. He is also on the board of South East Water.
Brian Keane was appointed a director on 1 March 2004 after a career in business, particularly the insurance industry. He is the former CEO of AAMI Ltd and is currently the principal of his own management and consulting firm, Brian Keane & Associates. He is currently a member of the boards of NIB Holdings Ltd and the Hollard Insurance Company Pty Ltd. He is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and of the Australian Marketing Institute.
Peter Lowe was appointed a director on 13 February 2006. He is the chairman of the Board Audit and Risk Committee. His board memberships include Citywide Services Pty Ltd, United Energy Distribution Holdings Pty Ltd, Multinet Group Holdings Pty Ltd and Snowy Hydro Limited. Peter holds a Bachelor of Commerce and a Masters in Business Administration and is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a Fellow of CPA Australia.
Geoff Willis was appointed a director on 29 November 2007. He was formerly CEO and board member of Hydro Tasmania. Geoff is executive chair of Tasmania’s Water and Sewerage Corporations and chair of ColorPak Ltd and the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra. He has a Bachelor of Commerce and a Masters of Business Administration.
Dr Peter Davis became a director following his appointment as Chief Executive Officer on 19 March 2004. He is chairman of EziKey Group Pty Ltd and a director of Aurora Energy (Tamar Valley) Pty Ltd. Peter has worked in the energy industry since 1981 and is currently head of the Energy Supply Association of Australia’s (esaa) Greenhouse Project Committee. He is also a director of esaa and a member of the Council of the University of Tasmania. Peter holds a PhD in energy engineering and is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers, Australia and the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
